Live in Punkow

Genres: Rock, Punk

Live in Punkow is a live album of the Italian band CCCP – Fedeli alla linea, published in 1996. The album contains a collection of material recorded live at concerts held by the group in the previous decade.

The album’s title is a pun between punk, a musical genre, and Pankow, a Berlin district, capital of the GDR and as such mentioned in the first track. The record aims to restore the spirit of the group’s live performances and the atmosphere of an era (the 1980s) that is now over.

In the introduction to Militanz Giovanni Lindo Ferretti sings a cappella some tercets of the Dies irae, precisely the eighth, eighteenth and nineteenth. Prophecy of the Sibyl, introduced by Annarella Giudici, takes up in an ironic key the jingle of the Aiazzone furniture factory, in the 1980s a real catchphrase on the fledgling private televisions.

The track La Madonna Appears, which is not a song, consists simply of the punchline of Allerghia, a stage show by CCCP – Fedeli alla linea. The tracks Spot and Radio Popolare are not songs. There is also a hidden track at the end of the disc where it is possible to hear some of the group’s handcrafted recordings dating back to 1982 (thus predating the release of the first EPs). These are Tube disasters and Shoot Jurij, live recorded in 1982.

Originally released on CD, by Virgin in 1996, the album was republished in LP by Universal in 2016.
