Do you remember the D.R.I. or the Agnostic Front? The old-fashioned American HC scene? The vinyls and gigs in Europe’s most ramshackle community centers? It seems like yesterday, it seems like a lifetime. Emilia-based Raw Power come right from there, from the days of Biafra, and they come back loaded to the gills churning out a nice, pulled record after a decades-long career. A record recorded in that America that has seen them as welcome guests several times, a record that for almost an hour does not let up, with original songs and a couple of apt covers (both of the Stooges, “I wanna be your dog” and “Raw power”).
A record that doesn’t miss a beat. All fast pieces, a minute and a half or so, sounds that haven’t moved a step but still manage to deliver energy and leave hundreds of records and discs from the last decade in the dust. Listen to “Freedom at Last,” “Resurrect,” or the hidden “Mine to Kill.” Compact, solid, catchy, everything you would expect from people who have been listening, playing and living this genre for a lifetime.
