Buon Compleanno Elvis is the fifth album by Luciano Ligabue, released by Warner Music Italy on CD, cassette and double LP in 1995.
It marks the beginning of a new artistic phase for the rocker from Correggio (RE): in fact, it is the first record entirely recorded without Clan Destino, the historic band that accompanied him from the beginning, but with a new group of musicians, nicknamed “The Band,” and with record producer Fabrizio Barbacci. The result is an album with a style different from previous ones, influenced by American rock and partly by the blues, which manages to be appreciated by the public and definitively establishes the Emilian singer-songwriter in the Italian music scene.
The title is a reference to Elvis Presley in what would have been the year of his 60th birthday, although Ligabue intends it as a symbol of rock rather than just a tribute. The Elvis quotes are therefore many during Buon Compleanno Elvis! Tour for some songs a huge inflatable puppet depicting the U.S. singer was also placed on stage, for others Ligabue performed with a jacket in the typical style of the Memphis artist.
A remastered version of the CD is released on December 4, 2008, which contains a 40-page booklet telling the story and other trivia about the record.
