Epica Etica Etnica Pathos

Genres: Post-punk

The record was recorded from April to June 1990, almost entirely live at Villa Pirondini, an abandoned 18th-century farmhouse located in the reggiana countryside near Rio Saliceto, using the natural echo of everyday space opposed to the glossy uniformity of a modern recording studio. For the entire recording time the full band settled in the villa. In addition, the recording and mixing were done in analog, as outlined in the liner notes:

“All the dirt of the 90s with the technology of the 70s.”

The punk style of the early records is replaced by a melancholic one emphasized by sophisticated arrangements. The album is divided into 4 parts, each dealing with one of the themes expressed in the title: Epic, Ethic, Ethnic, and Pathos.
All the photos of the album are made by Luigi Ghirri: the cover, which depicts the chapel of the villa adapted as the record’s mixing room, and the four photos accompanying the four themes/facets into which the record is divided. (Wikipedia)
