Raw Power EN

Raw Power is a hardcore punk band formed in 1981 in Poviglio, a small town in the lower Reggio Emilia area. The group is regarded as one of the leading bands of the Italian hardcore scene of the 1980s.

History of the band: 1979-1983: From Off Limit to Raw Power

Giuseppe Codeluppi, one of the two founders, began playing guitar in 1979 together with some boys from his village and formed a small rock cover band, Off Limit, sporadically involving his brother Mauro on vocals. At this time, without yet a real musical identity, Giuseppe approached punk thanks to his first concerts on the peninsula and met Maurizio Dodi in Piacenza, in a tavern that gave space to groups of the genre that were emerging. It was precisely with Maurizio that a new project began, starting from the beginning, finding Helder Stefanini, little more than a young boy, as drummer, and his older brother Silvio as bassist. The group keeps the name Off Limit for a few months, after which, thanks to a Stooges record, it changes and becomes Raw Power. Mauro, who had already sung in Giuseppe’s band, is also involved this time, but, living in England, he is often replaced on vocals by his brother throughout the first period.
